Heavy Equipment Operator Fort Rucker, Alabama
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates heavy and light equipment to repair, maintain, and reconfigure Fort Rucker's training lands and installation ranges. Operates heavy equipment such as excavators, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, self-propelled wheeled and tracked vegetation mulchers, agricultural tractors, tub grinders, large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Reads and interprets grade and slope stakes and simple plans, greases, adjusts, and makes emergency repairs to equipment as needed. Drives trucks to transport materials, merchandise, or equipment between various work areas, loads or unloads trucks with or without helpers, and ensures trucks are maintained in good working order. Utilizes various towed and power-takeoff equipment attachments, including hydro-seeders, drill seeders, fertilizer spreaders, and pesticide sprayers. Operates light equipment such as chainsaws, brush saws, pruning saws, and stump grinders, pickup trucks, and four-wheel-drive vehicles. May also operate articulating dump trucks, utility trucks, and trailers as needed, requiring the appropriate Alabama State driver's license. Performs duties generally assigned to Grounds Laborers as required.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of five (3) years demonstrated relevant experience in the operation of heavy equipment described above. Capability for fieldwork involving heavy lifting (minimum of 50 lbs), climbing over rough terrain under various weather conditions, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Persons holding nationally accredited certifications in equipment operation and conducting land management projects on a military installation are preferred.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
US citizenship. Must be able to effectively communicate with military organizations, military leaders, and civilian leaders. Must have a valid driver's license, maintain installation driving privileges, and complete a Defensive Driving Course. Must be able to pass all security requirements IAW military installation Provost Marshall's Policy to gain access to the installation.

Working Environment:
The work environment consists of both office and field settings within the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range and Training Complex. The position may require frequent visits to range and maintenance sites, including exposure to noise, weather, and outdoor conditions typical of live-fire training environments. The Project Manager may be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on mission schedules and contract needs.
