Operating Engineer

Position Summary The Operating Engineer is a skilled field operator responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment to support construction and utility work. This role focuses on executing assigned tasks in the field under the direction of the Superintendent. This position requires safe equipment operation, reliability, adherence to company and Cal/OSHA safety standards, and compliance with all drug and alcohol testing requirements mandated by transportation regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Equipment Operation Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, backhoes, forklifts, skid steers and their attachments, or other machinery as assigned. Perform material handling tasks including loading, unloading, and securing equipment or materials for transport. Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and safe use of all assigned vehicles and equipment. Safety and Compliance Follow all Cal/OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements at all times. Properly use and maintain required PPE. Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues immediately. Jobsite Support and Coordination Communicate with the Superintendent and foremen to align daily driving and equipment tasks with project priorities. Assist with basic site labor tasks as needed to maintain productivity and workflow. Qualifications Valid California Commercial Driver's License with acceptable driving record (required). 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment. Ability to operate a variety of equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to safely operate assigned machinery in varying field conditions. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Reliable, punctual, and able to work in outdoor environments. Work Environment Field- and road-based role with exposure to outdoor weather, construction environments, noise, dust, heavy equipment, and traffic. Requires frequent driving, sitting, walking, bending, lifting to 50 pounds, and operating vehicles/equipment in variable conditions. $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
