Job Description

Purpose Provide support to all pit and mine operations to aid in production, stockpiling, shipping, and maintenance. This is an entry level position for heavy equipment operations. Responsibilities Safely and efficiently operate a variety of heavy equipment such as, fuel truck, lube truck, water truck, skid steer, telehandler, and forklift, at basic skill level. Conduct inspections, as required by MSHA, before work begins in an area and before use of equipment. Monitor gauges and other indicators to ensure safe operation. Perform quality control testing as required. Provide support to all pit and mine personnel as needed. Perform general housekeeping of heavy equipment and fueling and greasing areas. Adhere to all policies, safety rules, guidelines, and codes; understand and comply with MSHA regulations. Assist with enforcement of workplace hazard and MSHA requirements. Maintain successful community relations with adjacent landowners and community. Represent Garcia Mining Company with high integrity, consistent with company core values. Perform all other duties as assigned. Experience/Skills Required Basic understanding of practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment. Basic understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment. Basic understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate machinery. Fulfill simple oral and written instructions and handle simple problems from standardized situations. Possess basic math skills, including addition and subtraction, two-digit numbers and units of measurement. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment and respond accordingly. Ability to operate equipment in reverse using mirrors. Work well independently and with others, and in a high paced work environment. Valid driver's license. Experience/Skills Desired 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment. Knowledge and experience at mining and/or construction site. Bilingual (English and Spanish). Physical Demands/Work Environment/Safety and Training Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment. Ability to work outside and withstand continued exposure to the elements including inclement weather and varying heat/cold conditions. Lift 75+
  • pounds. Attend and participate in required training as necessary and as required by MSHA. Ability to work 5 a.m.
