Job Description

Lee County is hiring a Drainage Equipment Operator for our Transportation team. In this job, you will help keep our drainage systems working properly to protect our roads, neighborhoods, and waterways. You will operate specialized equipment, assist crews in the field, and ensure drainage structures stay clear and functional. This job is great for someone who likes hands-on outdoor work, operating equipment, and helping keep the community safe during all seasons. What You Will Do Operate the Vac Con sewer/pipe cleaning machine to clean culverts, storm drains, catch basins, and piped drainage systems using high-pressure water. Perform the primary responsibility of working on the vactor truck to flush out drainage structures. Assist both the sidewalk crew and pipe crew with daily operations when needed. Help with construction and maintenance of pipes, culverts, and drainage systems throughout Lee County. Assist crews with raking, shoveling, mixing mud for concrete, and helping with pipes and driveways. Maintain safe and efficient operation of equipment, making adjustments for each job. Perform routine equipment checks and report malfunctions to the supervisor. Maintain equipment and fill in for the lead truck operator when required. Assist in locating utility lines and water control structures to support maintenance and construction work. Set up, maintain, and tear down IMOT (Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic) for roadwork when required. Work safely and follow established procedures, instructions, and standards. Perform other related duties as assigned. What We're Looking For High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in field operations, drainage work, construction, or equipment operation preferred. Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as required by DOT regulations (49CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382), if applicable. Licensing Requirements Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an Air Brake Endorsement . Acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain any additional certifications or licenses required for equipment operation. Preferred Experience operating Vac Con, jet-vac, or similar sewer/pipe cleaning equipment. Experience with traffic control setups (IMOT). Knowledge of stormwater systems, utility locating, or water control structures. Extra Skills Able to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Basic troubleshooting skills for equipment or field issues. Ability to follow instructions and adapt to different job sites and conditions.
Work Schedule :
