In this vital role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and inspecting flood protection barriers designed to safeguard communities from water damage during heavy rainfall and flooding events. Your work will directly contribute to community safety and resilience, ensuring flood defenses are properly installed and functioning effectively. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors on essential roadway and infrastructure projects, utilizing heavy equipment and manual tools to deliver high-quality results. Responsibilities Install flood barriers, including flood gates and levees, following project specifications and safety protocols. Operate heavy machinery such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, and front loader trucks to position materials accurately. Conduct routine inspections of installed flood defenses to ensure proper operation and identify maintenance needs. Assist with roadway construction projects by supporting excavation, grading, paving, and heavy equipment operation. Follow traffic control procedures for work zones to ensure safety for workers and the public during installation activities. Use hand tools and power tools for assembly, repairs, and adjustments of flood protection systems. Adhere strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations when operating commercial trucks or transporting equipment. Requirements Proven experience in construction, road construction, or civil infrastructure projects with a focus on flood prevention or highway maintenance. Skilled in operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks; certification is a plus. Mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Physical ability for heavy lifting, manual handling, outdoor work in various weather conditions, and working on construction sites. Knowledge of traffic control standards for work zones to maintain safety during installation activities. Familiarity with welding techniques and roadway construction practices is advantageous. Strong understanding of safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation and construction site management. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred; must comply with FMCSA regulations if operating trucks or transporting materials. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in dynamic outdoor environments with a focus on quality workmanship
