Equipment Operator / Foreman — MSHA Mining SitePosition Summary We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator / Foreman to lead daily mining-site operations while safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment. This position is responsible for coordinating employees, overseeing production activities, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with MSHA regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety procedures . The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong heavy-equipment operating skills, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively direct a crew in an active mining environment. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy mobile equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, haul trucks, graders, and other mining equipment as required. Supervise and direct daily activities of the assigned crew. Coordinate equipment, personnel, materials, and production activities to meet operational goals. Conduct and participate in workplace examinations, pre-operational equipment inspections, and safety meetings. Ensure employees follow MSHA requirements, company safety policies, and site-specific procedures. Identify and correct unsafe conditions and work practices. Stop work when an unsafe condition exists and take appropriate corrective action. Monitor production, equipment utilization, material movement, and overall job-site efficiency. Communicate daily work assignments and expectations clearly to crew members. Train, coach, and mentor employees on safe work practices and proper equipment operation. Coordinate equipment maintenance and report mechanical problems or safety defects promptly. Maintain accurate production, inspection, maintenance, and other required documentation. Work closely with site management, maintenance personnel, contractors, and other departments. Assist with planning work activities, equipment placement, material handling, and site logistics. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform other duties necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the mining site. Safety & MSHA Responsibilities Maintain a strong safety-first culture and lead by example. Follow applicable Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations and company policies. Participate in required MSHA training and maintain all required qualifications and certifications. Ensure employees receive appropriate task-specific instruction before performing assigned work. Conduct or assist with workplace examinations as required. Immediately report accidents, injuries, hazards, equipment defects, and other safety concerns. Ensure required personal protective equipment (PPE) is properly used. Maintain awareness of changing ground conditions, traffic patterns, weather, equipment hazards, and other mining-site risks. Qualifications Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a mining, quarry, aggregate, construction, or similar environment. Previous foreman, lead operator, or crew-lead experience preferred. Strong knowledge of safe heavy-equipment operation and job-site practices. Ability to read and understand work instructions, safety procedures, and equipment manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, contractors, and management. Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and effectively manage changing priorities. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, as required. Ability to pass all company-required physical, drug/alcohol, and background requirements, where applicable. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods. Ability to climb equipment ladders and access elevated work areas. Ability to lift and carry materials and tools as required. Ability to work around dust, noise, vibration, and other conditions common to mining operations. Must be able to wear required PPE at all times while performing assigned duties. Work Schedule & Environment This is a hands-on position performed at an active MSHA-regulated mining site. The Equipment Operator / Foreman must be willing to work the scheduled shifts, including overtime, weekends, or extended hours when operational needs require.
