Job Description

GFL Environmental is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate loaders, excavators, and related machinery at our waste and recycling facilities. You will move, load, and compact materials, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, and report any maintenance needs. Working in a safety-first, team-based environment, you'll follow environmental, operational, and
DOT/OSHA
regulations while supporting efficient site and traffic flow. Responsibilities Operate loaders, excavators, and other heavy equipment to move and compact waste and recyclables Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections and report maintenance issues Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, site rules) Coordinate with scale house, drivers, and site staff to maintain efficient traffic and material flow Maintain clean and organized work areas and support housekeeping standards Accurately complete basic logs or electronic records of work and equipment status Assist with basic equipment maintenance and cleanup as directed by supervisors Required Skills Heavy equipment operation Loader and excavator operation Safety protocol compliance Equipment inspection and maintenance Waste handling and sorting Basic mechanical troubleshooting Reading site plans and load tickets Two-way radio communication Time management Recordkeeping
