Job Description

About Us and Job Description:
Blue Horizon Construction specializes in underground water utility projects, including lead service line replacements, and we are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a variety of heavy machinery. Experience working in underground water and/or gas utility is preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working in tight urban environments and understands the precision required for utility work in active communities. This role is critical to ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and on time. This role will work on lead service line replacement contracts for the Detroit Water and Sewer Department. Requirements:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes and other equipment to excavate around watermains or gas lines. Load and move dirt, rock, sand, gravel and other materials.
  • Effective and efficient at backfilling
  • Locate and identify underground utilities prior to excavation; read and interpret
MISS DIG
markings (Falcon locator experience preferred)
  • Strong safety awareness and proper excavations and benching techniques, OSHA guidelines, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and secure equipment at the end of each shift
  • Dependable transportation to each jobsite
  • Assist with general labor duties as needed to support project completion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in underground water or gas utility construction
  • Familiarity with lead service line replacement projects
OSHA 10/30
Certification Compensation and Benefits:
  • Competitive pay based on experience. Based upon Davis Bacon compensation requirements or contract
Schedule:
4 - 10 Hour shifts. Opportunities for overtime
