Position Summary:
The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and trucks used in construction, maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of semiskilled tasks.
Position Responsibilities:
Operates earth moving equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, snowplow, road grader, front-end loader, track excavators, and/or skid steers. Capable of operating multiple pieces of construction equipment used in underground construction, base preparation and construction, and/or paving. Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill the equipment as necessary. Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling. Operate equipment on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one's surroundings. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment. Abides by Arrowhead's best practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques. Builds relationships and develops communication and interpersonal skills with tradespeople and project team members such as foreman, journeymen, superintendents, subcontractors, etc. Complete additional job duties and responsibilities as assigned and/or required. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. Provided with the proper training, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safety equipment, the employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Preferred Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have four years of experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment and a valid CDL license. OHSA 40 Hour
HAZWOPER
certification preferred.
Travel:
Travel to jobsites and other Arrowhead offices may be needed.
