Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW
Capable of operating various types of heavy equipment and perform several excavation tasks in a proficient manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Excavate high-end residential foundations including mass excavation, driveway construction, installing utilities, backfill, and final grade.
  • Effectively communicate progress and needs with clients and builders on-site.
  • Effectively communicate with BSLM superintendent and project manager daily.
  • Accurately read construction plans.
  • Operate various types of heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, compactors, skid steers, rock trucks and field team vehicles.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all members of the crew.
  • Consistently produce high quality work, safely and productively.
  • Look for opportunities in process improvement.
  • Ability to take direction from foreman or operator leading a job site.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Continuously strive to reduce unnecessary costs such as downtime, rework, transporting, material storage, and job time.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Heavy Equipment Operator is regularly required to:
  • Walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand.
  • Talk and hear at normal levels.
  • See with close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and have the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to recognize visual safety indicators, including color-coded lights and markings.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate tools and other business machines.
  • Lift and/ or move up to 50lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Must demonstrate troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work well independently or with others in a team environment.
  • Must be reliable, honest, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to use phone or tablet to clock into project management software.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook
  • Must have a current valid driver's license.
  • Must have reliable transportation
DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of experience excavation jobs 5+ years of experience in excavating foundations, septic systems, utilities and building roads. 5+ years of experience working with heavy equipment. Experience and/or willingness to learn about Trimble grade assist technology. Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards.
  • CDL-A not required but will be beneficial.

$34.00 - $39.00 per hour
