An Operating Engineer or Heavy Equipment Operator drives and operates heavy equipment used in quarries, construction sites, landfills, refuse and recycling centers, or ports. Heavy Equipment may include, but is not limited to, bulldozers, excavators, paving equipment and pile drivers.
Full-time About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Marine Construction Foreman / Heavy Equipment Operator to lead field crews while remaining actively involved in day-to-day marine construction operations. This is a hands-on foreman position for someone who is comfortable leading a crew and climbing into the equipment when needed. A major part of the role involves operating excavators from barges , so experience working around water, barges, tides, currents, and changing site conditions is highly preferred. The ideal candidate comes from a marine construction, heavy civil, waterfront, pile driving, or similar construction background and knows how to safely get work done in challenging field conditions. What You'll Do Lead and organize a marine construction crew in daily field operations Operate excavators and other heavy equipment, including equipment positioned on barges Plan and sequence daily construction activities Read construction plans and perform basic field layout Coordinate crews, materials, barges, boats, and equipment Perform or supervise pile driving, sheet pile installation, shoreline construction, demolition, and lifting operations Account for tides, currents, water levels, spuds, and barge stability when planning and performing work Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce jobsite safety requirements Monitor workmanship and maintain quality standards Communicate schedules, equipment needs, and field conditions with project management Complete daily reports, equipment inspections, and required project documentation Hold crew members accountable for safety, attendance, productivity, and proper equipment care What We're Looking For Previous excavator or heavy equipment operating experience Previous construction foreman or crew leadership experience Ability to read construction plans and understand construction sequencing Strong mechanical and field problem-solving abilities Strong safety awareness and sound judgment Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to work outdoors in marine environments and changing weather conditions Ability to effectively lead and communicate with field crews and management Experience That Will Make You Stand Out Candidates with any of the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply: Operating an excavator from a floating barge Marine, waterfront, or heavy civil construction Barges, spuds, push boats, tides, and currents Pile driving and sheet pile installation Rigging, lifting, and signal-person responsibilities Construction layout Shoreline stabilization or waterfront structures Compensation $65,000-$90,000 annually , depending on experience.
