Job Summary Overland Sand & Gravel is looking for a high performing equipment operator to join our team. This position operates equipment to include a rubber tire loader, track dozer, skid loader, excavator, or haul truck to transport bulk materials. Monitor the plant (conveyors, pumps, washers, etc.) while it is running for any equipment failure. Provide other support maintenance/mechanical facility work. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Maintains the shop & equipment according to safety standards. Cleans shop, office, restroom, scale rooms and equipment on a regular basis. Checks brakes, tires, springs, engine oil, etc. on a daily basis. Greases, changes oil, changes tires and performs other maintenance as required. As needed, uses equipment to work around the plant. Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, moves levers, and turns steering wheel to operate equipment. Other duties may be assigned. Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or general education diploma; and 6 months previous heavy equipment moving experience; or Equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Driver's License and be insurable under the company's insurance program. Must be capable of becoming certified on heavy equipment.
Other Qualifications:
Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred. Must be mechanically and physically inclined to provide mechanical skills to support the operation. Must demonstrate willingness to perform other support duties during non busy times. Must be able to work with various hand tools of the trade. Must have good manual dexterity and good motor coordination skills. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season. Must be able to work late or irregular hours.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to operate with minimal supervision, be a trouble shooter and take initiative to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems. Must be flexible regarding work assignments. Must be able to work well with others. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out one-or two-step instructions.
