Job Description
Summary of Position Under general direction of a Road Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for the careful and safe operation of a variety of heavy motorized equipment; performs other related duties as required. Overtime is an expected part of this position especially during the winter months (snowplowing). We offer a competitive benefit package and no layoffs. Illustrative Duties The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by this classification.
- Operates a front-end loader, backhoe, asphalt distributor, crane, grader bulldozer, excavator, stonebox
- When not engaged in the operation of one of the vehicles listed above, may be required to work on bridges, serve as a flagman at a construction site; dig ditches; do rough carpentry work; assist automotive mechanics in the garage; rake asphalt; cut roadside brush; may also be assigned to general laboring work
- Expectation to help load and unload the vehicle as well as drive and to perform any necessary manual duties required once the vehicle has reached the work site; may pile and/or stack supplies, shovel gravel and dirt, etc.
- Will act as a crew leader in the absence of the supervisor
- Repairs and performs general maintenance of equipment used
- Will be required to prepare reports of work performed Necessary Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Basic understanding of the operating principles of gasoline-powered and diesel-powered motor
- Knowledge of the parts that comprise a gasoline motor and the ability to identify such parts
- Knowledge of the particular problems involved in the operation of heavy equipment and distinguished from light equipment operation
- Knowledge of state and local motor vehicle laws
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and the general public Qualifications Desirable for Employment Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed above. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:
- Completion of twelfth grade and two (2) years' experience in the operation of any one or more of the equipment listed in this specification, and the ability to run all equipment listed
- Must hold a valid Ohio Commercial "A" or "B" Driver's license, which will be verified during the application process.
