York Bros Excavation (YBE) is a full-service heavy civil contracting company located in Redmond, Oregon that specializes in site work, grading, utilities, infrastructure, demolition, mass excavation, waterways, project management, and design builds. Since 2006, we've built our reputation on quality work, experienced crews, and investing in the equipment and technology needed to do the job right. We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator who knows heavy civil construction. Our operators work on commercial site development, utility installations, mass excavation, road construction, large building pads, grading, and infrastructure projects. Benefits Package We offer a competitive benefits package that includes: Medical, vision and dental insurance — 100% of the employee premium paid by the employer 401(k) with 4% company match Paid time off Wellness program Performance bonus Additional employee incentive programs Responsibilities & Duties Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, and other heavy equipment on commercial site development, underground utility, roadway, and heavy civil projects. Perform trenching, excavation, backfill and grading safely and efficiently while maintaining required line, grade, slope, and elevation. Excavate for and support the installation of water, sewer, power, and other underground utilities, including work around structures, crossings, and existing utilities. Work from civil plans, profiles, details, stakes, hubs, elevations, and GPS machine-control models to complete work accurately and minimize rework. Safely perform excavation in varying site conditions, including deep excavations, congested utility areas, and active commercial, private and public works sites. Understand the sequence of heavy civil construction and work effectively with pipe crews, grade crews, truck drivers, foremen, inspectors, and other trades to keep production moving. Recognize changing field conditions, plan conflicts, grade discrepancies, utility conflicts, and other potential problems—and communicate them before they become costly rework or safety issues. Perform daily equipment inspections, maintain clean and serviceable equipment, identify maintenance concerns, and promptly report needed repairs. Complete daily reports, timecards, equipment inspections, and maintenance requests accurately. Take ownership of the work. A strong operator is expected to know what they are building, understand the next step, check their work, and care about the finished product. Experience & Qualifications We are looking for an experienced heavy civil operator . The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience building commercial sites, underground utilities, roadways, or public infrastructure from the ground up. Heavy civil construction experience with a strong understanding of sitework, underground utilities, excavation, and grading. Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, specifications, details, and construction staking and apply them accurately in the field. Working knowledge of GPS machine-control technology and the ability to use it effectively for excavation and grading. Strong communication skills and the judgment to ask questions or stop and verify when field conditions do not match the plans or expected grade. Self-motivated and productive without requiring constant direction. Takes pride in equipment, workmanship, production. Able to perform physically demanding work, lift up to 50 lbs., and work outdoors in changing weather and jobsite conditions. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Experience matters—but the type of experience matters more. Candidates whose background includes commercial site development, complex underground utility installation, roadway construction, GPS grading, and working from civil plans are strongly encouraged to apply.
