Job Description
Heavy Equipment Operator Company Overview Nicholas Enterprises, Inc. has provided material handling and storage services since 1902 and has served the river transportation industry for more than 65 years. We operate rail, truck, barge, and warehouse facilities throughout the Port of Pittsburgh and central Pennsylvania. Our Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminal (PIT) is a full-service intermodal facility in Ambridge, PA, offering barge, rail, truck, and warehouse services. The 40-acre terminal also provides value-added services, including welding and fabrication. Position Summary We are seeking dependable individuals to join our operations team as Heavy Equipment Operators. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, movement, and storage of steel products and other industrial materials between barges, railcars, trucks, warehouses, and outdoor storage areas. Operators are trained to safely operate a variety of material handling equipment, including: 10-20 ton forklifts Cab-operated dual hoist dock cranes Yard trucks Other heavy equipment as needed Qualified candidates should have experience operating heavy equipment. Experience handling steel products and rigging is preferred. We are willing to train motivated individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety. Responsibilities Safely load, unload, move, and store steel products and other materials. Operate forklifts, dock cranes, yard trucks, and other equipment as assigned. Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns. Read work orders, bills of lading, and shipping documents to ensure accurate material handling. Follow all company policies, operating procedures, and safety requirements. Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Work independently and as part of a team. Assist with other terminal duties as needed. Qualifications Recent work history with reliable transportation. Experience operating heavy equipment. Experience with 10+ ton forklifts, cab-operated cranes, or similar industrial equipment is preferred. Rigging and steel handling experience is a plus. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Strong attention to safety, reliability, and teamwork. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced industrial environment.
