Job Description This role operates excavators and other heavy equipment to support commercial sitework projects with a focus on underground utility installation, trenching, and pipe laying. You work closely with pipe crews to perform precise digging, trenching, backfilling, and grading on active heavy civil construction sites while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to perform trenching for water, sewer, and storm utility installation. Support pipe laying operations by working in coordination with pipe layers and ground crews. Perform precision excavation around existing utilities using safe digging practices and soft dig awareness. Conduct backfilling and grading operations, including both rough and finish grading as required by the project. Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and trench specifications to complete work accurately (preferred). Perform daily equipment inspections and carry out routine maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. Why Work Here? Work Environment You work on active commercial construction job sites, primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions. The role involves working around heavy machinery, trenches, and underground utilities, requiring consistent attention to safety and situational awareness. Typical schedule is a first-shift start around 6:00 AM, with end times driven by project needs and regular opportunities for overtime. The work centers on core geographic areas including York and Carlisle and may involve travel within the broader region as projects require. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of York, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00
