The Loader Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to support underground utility construction projects. This role focuses on material handling, trench support, and maintaining efficient job site operations while adhering to project specifications and safety standards.Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.- Operate wheel loaders to load and move materials such as select fill, sand, gravel, and excavated spoils
- Load haul trucks with proper material placement and weight distribution
- Support pipe crews by maintaining proper backfill material supply and staging along trench lines
- Manage spoil piles and maintain separation of suitable and unsuitable materials
- Assist with trench backfilling operations in coordination with excavator operators and pipe crews
- Maintain haul roads, access points, and work areas to support safe and efficient operations
- Safely maneuver equipment in tight job site conditions around open trenches, utilities, and team members
- Perform grading and site cleanup as needed to support project completion
- Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance checks
- Identify and avoid underground utilities and other job site hazards
- Assist with unloading materials and deliveries using proper equipment handling techniques
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors
- Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures Qualifications
- Experience operating a wheel loader in underground utility or heavy civil construction
- Understanding of trenching operations, backfill requirements, and material handling practices
- Ability to work safely around open excavations and active utility installations
- Ability to operate equipment efficiently in confined and congested job site conditions
- Ability to read grade stakes and follow direction from Foreman or Superintendent
- Ability to work in varying weather and site conditions
