A Heavy Equipment Operator operates large machinery used in construction, mining, roadwork, utilities, and other industrial projects to move earth, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently. Typical responsibilities Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, skid steers, rollers, and forklifts. Read site plans, grade stakes, and work orders. Dig trenches, move soil and rock, grade surfaces, and load or unload materials. Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance, including checking fluid levels and reporting mechanical issues. Follow safety regulations and operating procedures to prevent accidents. Coordinate with supervisors, truck drivers, and other crew members. Maintain accurate records of equipment use and maintenance. Keep work areas clean and organized.
