JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Beach/Park Director, responsible for maintaining Surfside Beaches and perform related work as required to beachfronts. Operate a variety of heavy equipment, in the maintenance of the beach, roadways, and drainage structures. This person is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of his assigned crew, as well as developing the daily work plan. The employee must have a strong work ethic, a willingness to work in all safe weather conditions and must be willing to collaborate with a professional team. This position is physically demanding and requires a great deal of physical stamina.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trash pickup, maintenance, cleaning, mowing, weed-eating, and basic ground keeping of City facilities.

•Daily Surfside Beach trash pickup, cleaning and removing debris from beaches. Operate heavy equipment, such as: Asphalt Paver, Bulldozer, Maintainer, Mixer, Crane Truck, Motor Grader, Rubber Tire Backhoes, Gradalls, Front end loader, and Linkbelt/Boom Mowers. Use a variety of equipment to level materials, dig roadside ditches and dig major outfall structures. Work with other employees in performing various sanitation tasks in a safe and acceptable manner. Work outside in extreme weather conditions including extremely hot, very cold, or inclement weather. Lift and carry up to 50-pound. Uses hand tools when required for work tasks. Work safely near vehicle beach traffic; obtain the ability to hear clearly. Stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch, grip with hands and use hand eye coordination. Fill in for vacancies as needed, required to work extended hours during high demand seasonal holidays and special beach events. Demonstrate dependability, teamwork, and strong work ethic. Other duties may also be assigned to Beach department.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License and provide transportation to Park/Beach Department. At least 2 years of experience in heavy equipment operation or in a related field. Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted, or evaluated at the discretion of the City. Must be able to represent the department to both external and internal customers with a professional and friendly demeanor. Must have ability to perform physically demanding manual labor. Employee must be willing to work non-traditional schedule such as early mornings, weekends, holidays, special events and at other times if needed, and comply with all Surfside Beach policies such as a uniform dress code, background check and drug screening. Performs job duties with minimum direct supervision. Exhibit professionalism and maintain order in stressful situations. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, using tact and professionalism. Ability to stand and walk for 12 hours a day. Park/Beach department uniforms will be provided. Must be at least 18 years of age.

The employees must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.

Pay:

$16.00 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
