General Description:
Performs semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks that support the operational functions of the Nacogdoches County Road & Bridge Department. The duties include a variety of workplace hazards, extreme working conditions and the operation and use of a wide variety of construction and maintenance equipment, including: loaders, dump trucks, haul trucks, motor-graders, backhoes, tractors and other related equipment. Requires a valid Class A or Class B Texas Commercial Driver License. Drug & alcohol screening is a condition of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain power-driven road construction equipment Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in road construction and maintenance work Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in light equipment operations Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks that include heavy labor and manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision Ability to learn, understand and apply pertinent laws, rules and regulations Ability to maintain a current Texas Commercial Driver License of the appropriate class
Additional Information:
Work will be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures both hot and cold Exposure to noise, dirt, dust and vehicle exhaust Exposure to fumes and smoke, electrical hazards Working in and/or near water including creeks and ditches Working in confined or high work places, and on slippery and/or uneven surfaces Exposure to hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic Subject to emergency call-out duty 24 hours a day
Physical Requirements:
Representative of physical demands required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment in excess of 50 lbs Ability to climb and work from ladders and construction related equipment Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time Ability to sit, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl and reach Ability to perform heavy manual labor Ability to see and hear to operate equipment Sufficient manual dexterity to reach, grasp, touch and manipulate objects
Qualifications:
High school diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year experience in construction, maintenance or related field Requires possession of a valid
Class A or Class B Texas Commercial Driver License Instructions:
