JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, drive and operate heavy motorized equipment used in the maintenance of a water distribution, wastewater collection, alley, street, and drainage systems construction and repair. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operate vehicles and equipment such as excavators, graders, loaders, rollers, and various other heavy equipment. Drive dump truck with heavy equipment to job location(s). Operate backhoes hydraulic jackhammer to break pavement; uncover water or sewer lines; open trenches to install pipe; excavate for concrete and asphalt replacement. Assist crews in construction and repairs when needed. Efficiently and safely operate, care for, and maintain appearance of assigned equipment. Perform daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Follow written and oral job instructions. Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Hear clearly and interpret hand signals when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions. Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds; pull, push and/or drag up to 150 pounds of repair equipment or materials, and while hooking up heavy equipment, and participating in construction and repairs. Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time while driving or participating in repairs. Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather. Some exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards, dust and odors, using proper safety precautions. Serve on standby crew for after hours emergency work as required. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public.
