Job Description

Job Summary The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy machinery to support the extraction, production, processing, and (un)loading of materials across mining, recycled materials, and rail yard locations. This role ensures all materials meet established quality and specification standards while maintaining strict adherence to company, customer, and site‑specific safety requirements. Primary FunctionsEquipment Operation & Technical Skill
  • Operate heavy equipment (loader, haul truck, excavator) with minimal supervision to excavate, move, process, or (un)load materials.
  • Produce materials in accordance with customer specifications and verbal or written instructions.
  • Load finished products into trucks as required.
  • Identifies basic issues and reports them. Safety & Risk Management
  • Adhere to all company, customer, and site‑specific safety and environmental requirements.
  • Recognize obvious safety and environmental hazards.
  • Ensure tools and materials are returned to designated storage areas.
  • Knows basic procedures. Work Quality & Productivity
  • Conduct basic servicing and cleaning of equipment.
  • Meets expected pace in routine conditions with minimal supervision.
  • Promptly report deficiencies, hazards, or maintenance needs to supervisors and maintenance teams.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance when applicable. Professionalism & Communication
  • Accurately complete and submit required basic documentation, including: Production quantities Hours worked Scale tickets Equipment and vehicle usage Any additional work‑related records as directed Logs of pre‑ and post‑shift inspections.
  • Communicates clearly with supervisors.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to bend, lift, climb, push, pull, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, stand, walk, and traverse uneven terrain.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting while operating equipment.
  • Exposure to: Moderate noise levels Vibrations Bright lights Dust, fumes, and gases All climate types including heat, cold, humidity, rain, and snow
  • Ability to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Ability to travel throughout facilities or job sites to conduct inspections. Experience & Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 0-2 years of recent heavy equipment operating experience in construction, mining, or production environments preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to complete tasks despite frequent interruptions. Competencies

From $26.30 per hour
