Overhead Crane Operator

Job Title:

Material Handler Job Description This position involves training for at least the first few weeks to learn inventory locations. Candidates must be able to train on the first shift for at least two weeks. The role requires learning color codes for steel, warehouse placement, and crane operation, among other duties. Candidates must be prepared for an inside/outside role, walking 8-10 hours per shift, and performing various material handling tasks. Responsibilities Train on inventory locations and color codes for steel. Operate indoor and outdoor cranes. Perform general clean-up and housekeeping duties. Pull beams and load flatbed trailers and railcars, including rigging. Receive inventory and move materials using an overhead crane. Fill out shipping reports and bills of lading. Adhere to all safety rules while working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems. Possibly train to be a saw or brake operator, forklift operator, or steel bending machine operator. Essential Skills Heavy industrial or construction experience required. Ability to read a tape measure. Ability to learn and retain information based on color coding. Capability to lift up to 50lbs. Experience operating equipment safely around heavy machinery. Additional Skills & Qualifications Overhead crane experience in heavy industry or military preferred. Flexibility to train on day shift for up to two weeks. Ability to jump onto and off trailers safely. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment is both inside and outside, with steel stored in the building and two separate yards onsite. Conditions can be very hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter due to the steel surroundings. The facility has a construction-like atmosphere with gravel flooring, requiring hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots with metatarsals. Candidates should be comfortable working in a physically demanding and safety-conscious environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
