Member of the Virginia Retirement System. Work Year-Round! SPSA is currently recruiting for a Landfill Equipment Operator for our Regional Landfill. Must have experience operating heavy and complex equipment, such as yard tractors, farm tractors, bulldozers, compactor, excavators or wheel loaders in a safe and effective manner.

The Landfill Equipment Operator is responsible for: Safely and efficiently performs heavy equipment operation in order to maintain and construct a landfill by using equipment to push trash; maintaining the appropriate grade and compaction levels; hauling dirt; loading truck with excavator; driving truck to work site; combining trash and dirt in order to grade. Inspects equipment for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts, maintain basic fluid levels on assigned equipment. Reports defects or damage to equipment to the appropriate authority. Observes instruments and surroundings while vehicle is in motion. Responsible for the proper use, operation and cleanliness of the equipment. Reports defects or damage to equipment to the appropriate authority. Continuously monitors waste for evidence of unacceptable waste in materials. Cleans and inspects all types of heavy equipment in an effort to increase life expectancy and improve reliability. Participates in cleanup activities as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to high school graduation and three years in the operation of heavy construction equipment with at least one year as the primary operator of assigned equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of heavy construction equipment, the components and operating techniques of type of equipment assigned.
