JOB SUMMARY
Responsible to assist in safe operation of heavy rolling equipment to compact earth fills, subgrades, flexible base and bituminous surface to grade specifications preparatory to construction of highways, streets and runways. This is a full-time seasonal position.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform daily equipment walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained. Safely and properly perform maintenance on roller. Safely and properly operate roller equipment. Safely operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness. Ability to communicate with supervisor and testing technician about mat compaction efforts. Assist with dumping trucks and keeping load counts. Help clean curb and gutter areas. Communicate effectively with coworkers (verbal, listening, written). Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer and co-worker relations and act courteous/respectful of others. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Ensure OSHA, EPA, WYDOT, and Knife River safety and environmental regulation compliance. Assist in loading and unloading equipment for transport, including load securement. Must be willing to work flexible shifts that include days, nights, and weekends and occasionally out of town. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 1-2
Years of Roller Operating experience required. Knowledge of construction and acceptable interpersonal communication skills. Roller equipment operation and maintenance knowledge. Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
