Employee Value Proposition Working for a world-class leader in building structures and bridges, a Schuff Steel Cleaner Painter brings his/her expertise and knowledge in the commercial painting field to prep and paint some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the commercial building, bridge, and industrial sectors. Critical to the production process this position cleans and paints a large variety of materials by standard operating procedures. The cleaner painter utilizes a high degree of proficiency while utilizing full skills of the trade including knowledge of commercial cleaning and painting standards. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. We are looking for a professional with a growth mindset who desires a progressive long-term career. Core Responsibilities Operation and maintenance of all applicable equipment. Evaluate surface preparation to assure accuracy and compliance to SSPC Codes. Apply coatings to wet mils necessary to achieve the dry mils required by the job specifications. Knowledge of different types of coatings and application methods. Knowledge of Environmental rules and regulations. Use of grinders, chippers, sanders, and overhead cranes as needed. Read and layout work orders or receive instructions from the supervisor regarding cleaning. Reading piece mark numbers. Need to know SSPC Codes. Keeps work area organized and clean. Perform other routine duties per management direction. Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements Education/Training/Work Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Specialized Knowledge - Certificates & Licenses Equipment Knowledge & Skills - may include but not limited to hand blasting, machine blasting, sprayer and air compressor.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
