We're looking for an experienced Commercial Painting Superintendent who can lead our painting crews on commercial construction projects while also working alongside them to get the job done. About the Role As a Commercial Painting Superintendent, you'll oversee daily painting operations on assigned commercial jobsites, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, on schedule, and to our quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership position. Your time will be split between painting and supervising crews, depending on the needs of each project. On days when a full crew is on-site, you'll spend more time coordinating painters, checking quality, and keeping the project moving. On slower days, you may spend most or all of your time painting. Overall, we anticipate approximately 50-65% hands-on painting and 35-50% crew supervision and jobsite management, although this will vary by project. You'll report directly to the assigned Project Manager, who will typically visit the jobsite daily to review progress, address concerns, and coordinate upcoming work. Key Responsibilities Crew Leadership & Management Direct daily activities and assign tasks to painters on-site. Ensure painters understand their assignments, priorities, and quality expectations. Monitor crew productivity and keep painters working efficiently. Provide hands-on instruction and guidance when needed. Maintain an organized, professional, and productive jobsite. Hands-On Painting Perform painting work alongside the crew to keep projects moving. Complete surface preparation, masking, priming, spraying, rolling, cutting in, and finish painting. Work independently on painting tasks when crew supervision is not required. Help complete critical tasks and maintain production during busy periods. Quality Control & Project Execution Ensure all painting work meets project specifications, approved scope, and company quality standards. Inspect completed work and address deficiencies promptly. Verify proper preparation, materials, and application methods. Coordinate daily work around construction schedules and other trades. Identify potential delays, scope discrepancies, and material needs before they become problems. Communication & Accountability Provide regular updates to the Project Manager regarding progress, productivity, quality, and jobsite concerns. Communicate material, equipment, and staffing needs in advance. Report safety concerns, scheduling conflicts, and potential project issues promptly. Ensure painters follow jobsite safety requirements and maintain clean, organized work areas. Qualifications Strong professional painting experience, preferably in commercial or new construction. Previous experience leading or supervising painting crews. Proficiency with commercial painting equipment, including airless sprayers. Strong understanding of surface preparation, coating application, and quality standards. Ability to understand painting scopes, specifications, and construction schedules. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Willingness and physical ability to perform hands-on painting throughout the workday. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assigned jobsites. Previous experience as a painting foreman, lead painter, or commercial painting superintendent is preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who can be both a strong painter and a strong leader. You should be able to walk onto a jobsite, understand what needs to get done, organize the crew, and jump in to help make it happen. You don't need someone standing over your shoulder all day. You can manage your crew, recognize problems, communicate with your Project Manager, and take ownership of the work happening on your jobsite. Most importantly, you understand that being a superintendent doesn't mean you're above doing the actual painting. Your job is to make sure the project gets done correctly, efficiently, and on schedule—whether that means managing eight painters or spending the entire day painting alongside one other person.
