Job Description
The Painter is under general supervision and performs work such as preparing and painting buildings, equipment, furniture, and various other surfaces. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Perform general and custom painting assignments employing all standard trade practices and skills. Estimate and gather types and amount of materials needed for job. Follow all safety and other risk management policies in performance of work. Clean and prepare surfaces to be painted by use of sandpaper, scraping, soap and water, tape, drop cloths in preparation for painting. Mix paint, varnish, lacquers, and enamels Set up and break down scaffold and ladders Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to effectively follow the principles, practices, and methods of painting. Ability to effectively mix paint colors. Ability to effectively prepare surfaces and apply primers, sealers, undercoats and thinners. Ability to effectively operate equipment used in painting. Ability to effectively follow safety precautions to be used when working with the necessary equipment. Ability to effectively apply paint evenly and consistently on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Ability to paint above shoulder level for an extended period of time. Ability to work at high elevations using ladders, scaffolding, or other appropriate means. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with various populations, the University community and the public. Ability to read and follow written instructions. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. Ability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather duties. Required Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license. Experience in exterior/interior painting on metal, porous and finished surfaces. Experience in working with sheet rock, plaster, and other surface preparations.
Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection) as required.
