PAINTER/TEMPORARY
Wichita Falls ISD Maintenance and Operations Department Job Description
REPORTS TO
Building Maintenance Supervisor
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Apply paint, stain, lacquer, varnish and other finishes to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trim and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
At least 16 years old and valid state ID or drivers license. Painting ability learned through apprenticeship or informal on-the-job instruction. Special knowledge/
Skills:
Reading and basic math. Exercise independent judgment when undertaking an assignment.
Minimum Experience:
Able to use commercial airless paint sprayers, brushes, rollers
Fingerprinting/Background Check/Physical:
Pass a class 1 background check and physical.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply paint, stain, lacquer, varnish and other finishes to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trim and fixtures of buildings and other structures. Choose/Match paint colors and finishes for surfaces to be covered. Remove old coatings by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, or sandblasting. Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other fillers. Be well versed in preservation techniques. Apply primers and sealers to prepare new surfaces for finish coat. Mark parking areas. Erect scaffolding and other platforms to perform tasks above ground level. Carry materials and equipment. Clean work site and other assigned areas. Inspect equipment for safety. Follow strict safety procedures due to risk of injury from materials needed. Lead various size paint crews as formed for special projects Work some weekends as directed. Be able to be called-out for emergencies. Control/inventory/clean/maintain all equipment and tools. Other duties as assigned by Building Maintenance Supervisor, Assistant Facility Director, or Facility Director. Regualr Attendance
EQUIPMENT USED
Various size brushes, rollers, and airless paint sprayers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Reading and basic math, maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; work in awkward or cramped positions; work on hands and knees; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; risk injury from falls, and cuts; work on ladders and elevated platforms; work as a team member and or work alone. Good color perception.
Pay Grade:
