Job Description
Reporting to the Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring that all Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) owned and operated buildings throughout the Fort Smith region are safe and operating efficiently by performing preventative maintenance checks, identifying needed repairs to correct deficiencies and through the completion of inspection reports. You will also be required to train and mentor apprentices and supervise casual employees. The following knowledge, skills and abilities are essential for the role: Ability to inspect plumbing systems, knowledge of water systems and the safe operation of applicable equipment, Ability to complete repairs and installation in accordance with Plumbing and Heating Codes, Ability to mentor, supervise and train apprentices and casual staff, Ability to maintain accurate records, Ability and willingness to keep up to date with technology, Basic electrical knowledge is essential for the role, Knowledge of working with hazardous materials (i.e. chemical mixers and cleaners), Ability to work with the metric system, Knowledge of Computer Building Operator Systems Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by. Journeyman Plumber/ Class 'B' Gas Fitter Certificate, and 3 (three) years of related work experience. Class 4 Operator's Certificate would be an asset.
