General Summary This position is responsible for safely assembling, connecting, repairing, installing, and constructing pipe systems for storm drain, sanitary sewer, water (potable and non-potable) and/or dry utilities. Essential Job Accountabilities Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. Use instruments including but not limited to lasers, grade rods, eye levels and transit levels to set appropriate grade for pipe installation. Locate existing pipes requiring repair or replacement using magnetic or radio indicators. Pothole utilities using hand tools or pothole machine. Grade or level trench bases, using tampering machines or hand tools. Cut pipes to required lengths. Tap and drill holes into pies to introduce auxiliary lines or devise. Align and position pipes to prepare for welding or sealing. Connect multiples pipes and seal joints using mechanical fittings welding equipment, cement, or glue. Assemble and disassemble trench boxes and shoring systems. Other duties as assigned. Education High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience. Work Experience Two (2) years of pipelaying experience in underground construction, preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of safety standards and underground facilities law, preferred. Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off. Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours). Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions. Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment. Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment. Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces. Physical Demands Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down. Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more. Additional Requirements Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
