We build pipe skids, custom air handling units, modified equipment, and modular mechanical systems across our Manufacturing, Custom AHU, and Modifications divisions. Every unit is built to print, so accuracy matters as much as arc quality. We are looking for a Pipe Fitter to lay out, fit, and assemble piping for these builds. This is shop work, not field work. You will work from engineered drawings and bills of material in a controlled shop environment, building headers and hydronic piping assemblies that go into equipment shipped to commercial and industrial projects. The role is layout and fit-up driven. Most assemblies have to hold dimensional tolerance to fit inside a larger unit or skid frame, so the fit has to be right before the welder ever sees it. Duties Read and interpret shop drawings, isometrics, and mechanical drawings to guide pipe layout and assembly Perform takeoffs, calculate cut lengths, and account for fitting allowances, take-outs, and weld gaps Lay out, cut, bevel, and prep pipe using band saws, grinders, plasma cutting equipment, and pipe prep tools Fit and tack pipe assemblies, including headers, branch connections, and hydronic piping, for final welding Assemble and align grooved, flanged, socket weld, butt weld, and threaded piping connections to specification Set and square assemblies in fixtures or on the bench to hold alignment through welding Verify dimensions against the drawing before tacking and again before the assembly moves to weld Check fit-up quality, including gap, alignment, and land, and correct deficiencies before handoff Coordinate with welders on fit-up sequence and weld access so assemblies can be completed efficiently Install hangers, supports, brackets, and mounting hardware as called out on the drawing Grind, clean, and prep completed assemblies for coating, insulation, or inspection Support pressure and leak testing of completed piping assemblies Pull material against the bill of material and report shortages, substitutions, or drawing discrepancies rather than working around them Record labor and material against work orders in Fulcrum on shop tablets Move and position pipe, fittings, and completed assemblies safely using shop material handling equipment Keep the work area, tooling, and equipment clean and in working order, and report equipment issues Coordinate with fabricators, welders, and shop supervision to keep jobs moving on schedule Follow all shop safety practices, including hot work procedures, PPE, and safe handling of tools and materials Requirements Experience fitting pipe in a fabrication shop or industrial manufacturing environment Strong pipe layout and fit-up skills, including takeoffs, cut lengths, fitting take-outs, and branch and elbow fit-up Ability to read and work independently from piping drawings, isometrics, and mechanical drawings Ability to tack weld carbon steel pipe using GTAW (TIG) to cleanly and properly hold alignment for final welding Working knowledge of grooved, flanged, threaded, socket weld, and butt weld connection methods Proficiency with tape measures, squares, levels, protractors, calipers, and other measuring instruments Experience with plasma cutting, band saws, grinding, beveling, and general metal fabrication Shop math skills for measurement, layout, angles, and fabrication calculations Ability to inspect your own work and hold dimensional tolerance without being checked at every step Comfortable with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment Forklift certified Understanding of welding and shop safety practices Reliable attendance and the ability to hold a production schedule
