Position Summary McLain Site Solutions is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Pipe Crew Hillman to support underground utility installation crews. Working directly with the Pipe Crew Foreman, the Hillman is responsible for assisting with pipe installation operations from above ground, maintaining line and grade, coordinating materials, communicating with equipment operators, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. Essential Responsibilities Assist the Pipe Crew Foreman with daily underground utility operations. Support the installation of underground utility systems Establish and maintain proper line and grade using pipe lasers, grade rods, and grade stakes. Guide excavator operators during excavation and pipe installation activities. Stage pipe, fittings, valves, hydrants, manholes, catch basins, and other materials for installation. Verify materials are correct and readily available before installation begins. Assist with inventory control and communicate material needs to the Foreman. Monitor trench conditions and maintain safe access around excavations. Assist with measuring pipe, checking elevations, and verifying utility alignment. Communicate effectively with the Tailman, equipment operators, and Foreman to maintain efficient production. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all OSHA excavation safety regulations and company safety policies. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Minimum 1-3 years of underground utility construction experience. Basic knowledge of underground utility installation practices. Experience working around water, sewer, force main, and storm drainage projects. Ability to establish and maintain line and grade using pipe lasers, grade rods, and grade stakes. Ability to read a tape measure and follow grade information. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license preferred. Preferred Experience assisting with the installation of PVC, HDPE, ductile iron pipe (DIP), or reinforced concrete pipe (RCP). Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, or other small construction equipment. OSHA 10 Certification. CPR/First Aid Certification. CDL Bilingual (English/Spanish). Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb on uneven terrain. Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds. Frequently perform repetitive lifting, carrying, and manual labor. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and utility installation equipment. Work Environment This position is performed primarily on active construction sites. Employees regularly work around excavations, underground utilities, heavy equipment, moving machinery, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
Schedule Monday-Friday Typical hours:
7:00 AM - 5:00 PM One-hour unpaid lunch Overtime may be available based on project needs and business needs.
