Job Description

Purpose The CDL Driver / Pipe Layer Assistant I position is an entry-level field position that combines transportation responsibilities with underground utility support. Employees in this role are responsible for safely operating company CDL vehicles—primarily water trucks—while assisting Pipe Layers and field crews with daily construction activities. This position serves as a cross-training opportunity for employees interested in building a career in either the Transportation or Underground Utilities career paths. Employees are expected to safely transport water, materials, and equipment while demonstrating initiative by assisting the crew whenever driving responsibilities are complete. Successful employees will develop a strong understanding of heavy civil construction, underground utility installation, equipment awareness, and jobsite safety while preparing for advancement into either Pipe Layer I or CDL Driver II . Primary Responsibilities Safely operate company water trucks and other assigned CDL vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Maintain required DOT logs and inspection documentation. Transport water, materials, tools, and equipment to project sites. Supply water for dust control, compaction, and construction operations. Assist Pipe Layers with the installation of water, sewer, storm drain, and irrigation systems. Assist with trench preparation, bedding, backfill, and compaction. Safely guide equipment operators during excavation and utility installation. Load, unload, and organize tools and materials. Fuel, grease, wash, and maintain assigned trucks and equipment. Report equipment or mechanical concerns immediately. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite. Complete other duties assigned by the Foreman. Knowledge & Skills Employees should demonstrate a working knowledge of: DOT regulations Safe driving practices Vehicle inspections Basic load securement Company safety policies OSHA jobsite requirements Trench safety awareness Underground utility materials Basic line and grade concepts Hand tools and material handling Safe communication around heavy equipment Professional communication and teamwork Previous underground utility experience is not required . Employees are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and participate in field training. Equipment & Tools Employees may safely operate or use, when authorized and trained: Water Truck Dump Truck Pickup Truck Equipment Trailer Hand tools Plate Compactor Jumping Jack Compactor Grade Rod (assist) Pipe Laser (assist) Cutoff Saw Trench Safety Equipment Fueling Equipment Grease Equipment Minimum Qualifications Valid Class A CDL (Required) Acceptable driving record Ability to pass DOT physical and required drug screening Ability to lift 75 pounds Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions Ability to perform manual labor throughout the workday Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed Strong work ethic and dependable attendance Success Looks Like A successful CDL Driver /

Advancement Opportunities Available Pay:
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
