Job Summary We are looking for an experienced and safety-focused Gas Piping Mechanic to join our growing team. You will layout, size, fabricate, install, and pressure-test fuel gas piping systems (natural gas and propane) for residential and commercial projects. The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of local fuel gas codes, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to job-site safety.

Key Responsibilities Installation & Assembly:

Properly size, layout, cut, thread, and install black iron, copper, CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing), or welded piping systems for natural gas and propane.

Testing & Inspection:

Conduct rigorous pressure tests, leak checks, and system inspections on newly installed or repaired gas lines to verify code compliance.

Appliance Hookup:

Connect, test, and adjust gas appliances, backup generators, meters, and regulators according to manufacturer specifications.

Maintenance & Repair:

Troubleshoot existing piping failures, locate leaks, and perform necessary repairs or replacements on active lines.

Code Adherence:

Comply strictly with state/local fuel gas codes, OSHA safety guidelines, and company safety procedures.

Technical Skills Pipe Fabricating:

Mastery of pipe cutting, threading, reaming, bending, and joining techniques using black iron, copper, and CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing).

Joining Methods:

High proficiency in mechanical fitting assembly, brazing, and soldering.

Blueprint Reading:

Ability to read, interpret, and work from structural blueprints, isometric plumbing drawings, and technical schematics.

System Sizing:

Strong mathematical skill to calculate gas volume demands and properly size piping networks using code tables.

Testing Equipment:

Expert use of digital and analog pressure gauges, manometers, and electronic gas leak detectors.

Safety & Compliance Skills Code Compliance:

Comprehensive knowledge of the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), NFPA 54, and local municipal gas codes.

Leak Detection:

Precision troubleshooting skills to quickly pinpoint, isolate, and safely mitigate hazardous fuel leaks.

OSHA Standards:

Strict adherence to job-site safety rules, including personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space protocols.

Physical & Core Skills Manual Dexterity:

Fine motor skills required to handle delicate regulators, meters, and valves without damaging components.

Stamina & Strength:

Physical ability to handle heavy piping, tools, and equipment, alongside the flexibility to work in tight crawlspaces, trenches, or on ladders.

Problem-Solving:

Strong critical-thinking skills to resolve unexpected routing routing obstacles or structural layout conflicts on-site.
