The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of hands-on experience installing large-diameter RCP and HDPE piping in heavy industrial, heavy civil, infrastructure, or similar construction environments and understands proper excavation, bedding, pipe placement, jointing, backfill, compaction, line and grade, and trench safety requirements. This position works as part of an underground utilities crew and must be comfortable working around excavators, loaders, cranes, trench boxes, pumps, compactors, and other heavy construction equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install large-diameter RCP, HDPE, and associated stormwater piping systems in accordance with project plans, specifications, and established grades.
  • Assist with excavation, trench preparation, pipe bedding, pipe placement, alignment, jointing, backfill, and compaction.
  • Install storm drainage structures including: o Manholes o Catch basins o Inlets o Junction boxes o Headwalls o Outfalls o Other related drainage structures
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, utility plans, profiles, elevations, and basic pipe installation details.
  • Establish and maintain proper pipe line, grade, slope, elevation, and alignment using lasers, levels, grade stakes, and other layout information provided by survey or supervision.
  • Inspect pipe, fittings, joints, gaskets, and bedding materials prior to installation.
  • Properly clean, lubricate, align, and assemble RCP joints and connections.
  • Assist with installation and joining of HDPE pipe using approved mechanical, fused, or manufacturer-specified connection systems as applicable.
  • Guide pipe and structures into excavations using proper rigging practices and approved hand signals while working with excavator, crane, or loader operators.
  • Work safely within and around trenches, excavations, trench shields, shoring systems, and other protective systems.
  • Assist with groundwater control and dewatering operations as required for underground installations.
  • Coordinate closely with equipment operators, Pipe Foremen, survey personnel, and other crew members during installation activities.
  • Perform hand excavation and grading around existing utilities and structures when required.
  • Assist with placement and compaction of bedding, embedment, select fill, and backfill materials.
  • Identify potential conflicts involving existing utilities, elevations, structures, or site conditions and immediately notify supervision.
  • Assist with locating and protecting existing utilities during excavation and pipe installation activities.
  • Maintain tools, rigging equipment, pumps, lasers, compactors, and other equipment used by the pipe crew.
  • Keep the work area organized and free of unnecessary hazards.
  • Participate in daily pre-task planning, Job Safety Analyses, toolbox meetings, and other project safety activities.
  • Follow all company, owner, project, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pipe Foreman, Superintendent, or other project supervision. Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience installing large-diameter RCP and HDPE stormwater piping.
  • Experience working on heavy industrial, heavy civil, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, or large commercial construction projects .
  • Demonstrated experience working in and around excavations and underground utility installations.
  • Knowledge of proper pipe bedding, alignment, jointing, backfill, and compaction practices.
  • Ability to understand pipe slopes, elevations, grades, and basic construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with pipe lasers, levels, grade stakes, and basic grade-control methods.
  • Experience working with excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment during pipe installation.
  • Familiarity with trench boxes, shoring, sloping, benching, and general excavation safety practices.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, pumps, compactors, and other underground utility construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely work around suspended loads and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with equipment operators, supervision, and other members of the pipe crew.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
  • Must successfully complete required pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training.
  • Excavation and Trenching Safety training.
  • Confined Space Entry training.
  • Rigging and Signal Person training or certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • HDPE fusion training or certification.
  • Experience installing large-diameter storm drainage systems on industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, energy projects, or major civil construction sites .
  • Experience setting large precast manholes, junction boxes, catch basins, and other drainage structures.
  • Experience with HDPE fusion or mechanical joining systems.
  • Experience with deep excavation and groundwater/dewatering operations.
  • Experience working around existing underground utilities.
  • Experience with pipe lasers, GPS grade-control systems, or other construction layout technology. Knowledge and Skills Successful candidates should have working knowledge of:

  • Safe work practices around suspended loads Safety Responsibilities The Stormwater Pipe Installer is expected to actively support the company's safety program and comply with all project-specific requirements.
Responsibilities include:
  • Participate in daily pre-task planning and Job Safety Analyses.
  • Wear and properly maintain all required personal protective equipment.
  • Follow safe excavation and trench-entry procedures.
  • Use approved ladders and access systems when entering or exiting excavations.
  • Remain aware of heavy equipment movements and maintain safe working distances.
  • Follow established rigging and signaling practices when handling pipe and precast structures.
  • Never work beneath suspended loads.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, utility conflicts, near misses, or other hazards to supervision.
  • Follow all company, owner, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions are identified.
Physical Requirements This position requires performing physically demanding construction work in an outdoor industrial environment.
Candidates must be able to:
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Enter and exit excavations using approved ladders or access systems.
  • Lift and carry construction materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Work around heavy equipment, construction vehicles, excavations, noise, dust, mud, water, and changing site conditions.
  • Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, humid, and other adverse weather conditions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, and other project-specific PPE.
  • Work extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, or varying schedules when required by project conditions.
Work Environment Work is primarily performed on active heavy industrial and civil construction sites. Employees will routinely work around excavations, large construction equipment, cranes, trucks, underground utilities, pumps, drainage structures, and other active construction operations. The position requires continuous awareness of changing site conditions and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
