Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and experienced Pipe Layer/Lead Man to oversee and execute underground utility installation projects, specializing in sanitary sewer, stormwater systems, water supply systems, and other underground utilities. This role involves leading a team of skilled workers, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring all work complies with safety regulations and project specifications. As a key leader on the construction site, you will coordinate pipe installation activities, operate heavy equipment, and maintain high standards of quality and safety throughout the project lifecycle. Your expertise will help ensure efficient project completion while adhering to all safety protocols and construction plans. Duties Lead and supervise a team of pipe layers, ensuring efficient coordination of underground utility installation activities. Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans to accurately follow specifications for sewer lines, water systems, stormwater drainage, and other underground utilities. Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, forklifts, and front loader trucks to assist with trenching, pipe laying, and site preparation. Perform construction trenching with precision to meet project requirements while maintaining safety standards. Install pipes using laser-guided technology (pipe laser) for accurate alignment and elevation; ensure proper pipe fitting and joining techniques. Conduct utility locating to identify existing underground utilities before excavation; adhere strictly to federal construction safety regulations. Oversee concrete finishing tasks related to utility structures and ensure proper concrete forming practices are followed. Maintain clear communication with team members regarding daily goals, safety procedures, and project updates. Ensure all work aligns with blueprint specifications and construction plans; interpret technical drawings accurately. Enforce safety regulations on-site by adhering to safety protocol guidelines; conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks. Assist with plumbing connections, sanitary sewers installation, wastewater systems, stormwater management systems, and sewer line installation projects. Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively for pipe fitting, welding tasks, or minor repairs as needed. Requirements Proven experience in construction site operations with a focus on underground utilities installation; previous experience as a Pipe Layer or Lead Man preferred. Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, and pipeline equipment. Skilled in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings for sewer lines, water supply systems, stormwater systems, and underground utilities. Familiarity with utility locating methods and federal construction safety regulations is essential. Ability to operate pipe laser equipment for precise pipe alignment during installation projects. Experience in trenching for sanitary drainage systems and wastewater infrastructure projects. Knowledge of concrete forming techniques and concrete finishing related to utility structures. Welding skills are a plus for joining pipes or repairing infrastructure components. Strong understanding of plumbing principles related to sewer line installation and water system connections. Ability to follow detailed construction plans accurately while maintaining flexibility for on-site adjustments. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to supervise teams effectively while maintaining high safety standards. Valid certifications in heavy equipment operation; OSHA or equivalent safety training certifications preferred.
