Position Summary We're hiring a Mainline Equipment Operator to support our underground utility crews on civil construction projects throughout Central Oregon. Operators report directly to assigned job sites and primarily operate excavators to perform trenching and utility installation for water, sewer, storm drain and dry utilities. This role is ideal for an experienced operator who can safely and efficiently work with pipe crews while maintaining grade, trench safety, and production on active construction sites. Key Responsibilities Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to perform trenching for underground utilities Work closely with pipelayers and ground crews to install water, sewer, and storm drain systems Maintain trench grade and alignment using grade stakes, pipe lasers, and direction from supervisors Excavate safely around existing underground utilities and maintain trench safety practices Perform bedding preparation and pipe placement support Install trench boxes and assist with proper trench protection methods Read and interpret grade stakes, plans, and utility layouts Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance and fueling Maintain awareness of ground personnel, underground utilities, and changing job site conditions Follow all company safety procedures and work safely around active construction operations Required Qualifications Proven experience operating excavators on underground utility installation projects Strong understanding of trenching, pipe installation support, and trench safety practices Ability to read grade stakes and maintain proper trench elevations Experience working closely with pipe crews in active trench environments Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Strong attention to safety and situational awareness Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) 5+ years of underground utility excavation experience Experience installing water, sewer, and storm drain systems Familiarity with pipe lasers and grade control systems Experience operating GPS-equipped excavators Experience working around existing utilities and tight urban work zones What You Can Expect Report directly to assigned job sites across Central Oregon A hands-on role working closely with pipe crews installing critical underground infrastructure Work with experienced crews on a variety of civil utility projects Immediate opening for the right candidate
