Operations Position Summary The Fitter is responsible for traveling to customer jobsites and assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems in construction and industrial environments, in accordance with customer drawings and specifications. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, cutting and threading pipes, and ensuring the proper fit and alignment of pipes. The Fitter plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of plumbing and piping systems. Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare and clean materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and fitting.
  • Ensure proper fit-up and alignment of components before welding.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Prepare pipes for welding, brazing, soldering, or other joining methods.
  • Test piping systems for leaks and address any deviations or defects.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as visual inspection and dye penetrant testing, to identify defects.
  • Take accurate measurements and use layout tools to mark the placement of pipes.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or issues.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote a safety conscious work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and work performed.
  • Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to address design or production challenges. Physical Requirements
  • Bending at the waist, knees and ankles, stooping, crawling on arms and legs, and climbing ladders up to 6 feet.
  • Must be able to fully extend arm lengths when reaching below waist and above head.
  • Must be able to maintain balance when walking, crouching, and crawling indoors and outdoors, including in uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Must be able to stand and remain upright for extended periods.
  • Walking is expected for up to 100% of the scheduled shift.
  • Be able to communicate verbally as well as in written and diagram forms.
  • Be able to hear with or without correction, and must be able to determine source of sound as well as be able to interpret communications in an environment with different sounds at different volumes e.g. someone addressing a coworker by speech with simultaneous machinery running at the same time in the same environment.
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Visual acuity with or without correction - must be able to read small and big prints, be able to distinguish different colors, have distance vision 20 feet or more, have peripheral vision, full depth perception, have the ability to adjust visual focus at will. Education and Experience Requirements
  • Three or more years of experience as a Fitter in industrial and construction installations.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of welding machine, grinder, and all other fitting tools.
  • Knowledge of materials, metallurgy, and welding symbols.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members to ensure project objectives are met.
