Job Description

Overview Join our team as an Underground Utilities Grade Checker and play a key role in accurate trenching for civil utility work. In this hands‑on position, you'll be responsible for setting up lasers, establishing elevations, and guiding excavation to ensure trenches are dug to the correct line and depth. Your skill in maintaining grade control will support safe, efficient, and high‑quality underground installations. This role offers steady fieldwork, clear responsibilities, and the opportunity to directly impact the success of each project. Responsibilities Set up and operate laser levels using control points or benchmarks Establish height of instrument (HI) and verify elevations throughout the workday Read cut/fill stakes and adjust receiver settings accurately Lead excavators to maintain correct trench depth and alignment Check trench elevations before bedding, pipe installation, and backfill Communicate clearly with operators and crew to keep production moving Maintain safe work practices and awareness around active excavation Perform basic equipment checks and keep tools organized and functional Qualifications Experience running a laser for underground utilities Ability to read grade stakes and understand cut/fill Skilled in establishing HI and pulling elevations without supervision Comfortable working around heavy equipment and active excavation Strong communication skills and situational awareness Reliable transportation and consistent attendance Physically able to work outdoors in various conditions Join us Be part of a team that values precision, safety, and professionalism.
