Wet Utilities Pipefitter Phoenix General Contractors LLC El Paso, TX Job Details Temporary | Full-time $35 - $40 an hour 2 days ago Qualifications Spanish Utility system installation projects English Driver's License Attention to detail Underground utility pipelaying projects Welding Piping system maintenance Full Job Description Job Overview The Wet Utilities Pipe Fitter is responsible for the installation, joining, and repair of underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain pipe systems in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable codes. This role requires strong knowledge of pipe materials, joining methods, grade and slope work, and trench safety practices, and plays a key role in ensuring utility installations are completed safely, accurately, and to Company and client quality standards. Key Responsibilities Install, align, and join underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain pipe, including PVC, ductile iron, HDPE, and RCP materials. Perform pipe joining using appropriate methods, including solvent welding, mechanical/gasket joints, flanged connections, and fusion welding as required. Read and interpret civil/utility drawings, grade sheets, and specifications to install pipe at correct depth, slope, and alignment. Set and maintain proper grade using laser levels, string lines, or GPS-guided equipment for both gravity-flow and pressure systems. Perform tie-ins and connections to existing water mains or sewer lines, including live tie-ins where required. Coordinate with excavation crews to ensure proper trenching, shoring/shielding, bedding, and backfill procedures are followed. Follow all OSHA trenching and excavation safety requirements and Company safety policies at all times. Coordinate with surveyors, inspectors, and other trades to resolve field conflicts and maintain project schedule and quality. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent. Skills 5+ years of hands-on experience installing wet utility pipe systems (water, sewer, and/or storm drain). Working knowledge of pipe materials and joining methods (PVC, ductile iron, HDPE, RCP). Ability to read and interpret civil/utility construction drawings and grade sheets. Experience with grade-setting tools such as laser levels, transits, string lines, or GPS-guided equipment. Understanding of trench safety practices and OSHA excavation standards. Familiarity with local/state plumbing and utility codes and municipal specifications. Experience with pressure and leak testing procedures. Ability to work effectively with excavation crews, surveyors, inspectors, and other trades. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and reliability in a field environment.
