Overview Pipe Fitter - Job Description and Requirements (
Start Date Estimate:
End of October) The Pipe Fitter will be responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing piping systems. These systems may support steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubrication, fire-sprinkler, and industrial-processing operations. Primary Responsibilities
- Review and interpret project specifications, construction plans, and blueprints to understand the required scope of work.
- Determine the proper type and size of pipe, fittings, and related materials needed for each installation.
- Examine the work area for existing obstructions and confirm that pipe openings will not compromise the structure.
- Plan the order of installation to prevent conflicts with surrounding obstacles or the work of other construction trades.
- Measure, cut, grind, thread, and bend pipe according to project plans and specifications.
- Assemble and install various types of metal and non-metal piping, fittings, and related components.
- Join piping and properly secure it to the structure using hangers, brackets, clamps, and other supports.
- Test completed piping systems for leaks by pressurizing the lines and monitoring gauges for changes. Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of five years of pipe-fitting experience, including experience with commercial plumbing systems. An equivalent combination of technical-school education and relevant hands-on experience may also be considered.
- Ability to perform the basic math calculations required for pipe-fitting work, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, understand, and effectively use the Pipe Fitter's Blue Book.
- Must be comfortable working in a variety of job-site conditions, including mechanical-equipment rooms, areas with loud operating machinery, extreme temperatures or weather, elevated or difficult workspaces, and areas where high-voltage electrical hazards may be present.
- Must be physically capable of regularly using the hands and fingers, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and performing other movements required throughout the workday.
- Must be able to regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move more than 50 pounds. Pay rate (regular) = 53.17 /hour Minimum
- of 10 hours a week guaranteed OT at time and a half.
Pay:
$27.44 - $33.04 per hour
