Role Overview:
Technician Excavation (2025-1141) Role Overview The Excavation Technician will join our underground and site services team, performing trenching, digging, grading, and site preparation for plumbing, utility, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating excavation equipment, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. This role plays a key part in supporting plumbing, sewer, and drainage installations, ensuring every project is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. What You Bring Minimum of 2+ years of experience in excavation, underground utilities, or site work preferred.
  • Equipment Skills:
    Proficient with excavators, backhoes, trenchers, skid steers, compactors, and other heavy equipment.
  • Licensing:
    Valid driver's license with clean driving record; CDL Class A/B a plus.
  • Physical Requirements:
    Able to lift 75 lbs, work in trenches, confined spaces, and varied weather conditions.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Understanding of trench safety, shoring systems, and soil classifications.
  • Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR, Competent Person for Excavation.

Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced field environment.
Key Responsibilities Excavation Work:
Safely operate trenchers, mini-excavators, backhoes, and hand tools to dig and backfill trenches for plumbing, drainage, and utility systems.
  • Site Preparation:
    Grade and level work areas; assist in shoring, compacting, and setting elevations according to plans.
  • Utility Locating & Safety:
    Identify and protect existing underground utilities; follow "Call Before You Dig" (811) protocols and company safety policies.
  • Material Handling:
    Load, transport, and position materials, pipes, and fittings using appropriate tools and lifting equipment.
  • Installation Support:
    Assist plumbers or pipefitters with placement of piping, fittings, and connections during underground work.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of excavation equipment and tools.
  • Documentation:
    Complete daily job logs, pre-trip inspections, and project checklists accurately.
  • Team Collaboration:
    Work closely with supervisors, plumbers, and other trades to meet project timelines.

Safety Compliance:
Follow OSHA regulations, confined space procedures, and company safety standards at all times.
Licenses & Certifications Driving:
Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
