Locate Technician Location:
Kansas City, MO 64116 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Locate Technician to join our team in Kansas City, MO. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in the field. Key Responsibilities Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines. Use specialized equipment such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and GPS devices to detect and mark utility lines. Mark utility locations clearly and accurately using paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations. Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including maps, reports, and documentation of marked areas. Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and customers to provide information and ensure safe excavation practices. Follow all safety protocols and comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to utility locating and excavation safety. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or a related field preferred. Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and utility drawings. Proficient in using locating equipment and technology. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Work Environment This position involves working primarily outdoors at various job sites throughout the Kansas City area.
