Torque & Test Field Technician Black Iron Energy Fargo, ND Job Details Full-time $22 - $32 an hour 10 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Specialized industrial tools Outdoor work experience Moving Driver's License Torque wrenches Hydraulics Full Job Description Job Overview Black Iron Energy is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Torque & Test Field Technician to perform pressure testing, torquing, inspection, and related services on workover rigs and well servicing equipment. The technician will be responsible for safely and accurately testing well-control equipment, including BOP systems, to specified pressures and ensuring connections are properly torqued and secured. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently in demanding oilfield conditions. Primary Responsibilities Perform BOP pressure testing on workover rigs and well servicing equipment. Conduct low- and high-pressure tests in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements. Torque BOPs, flanges, connections, and other well-control equipment using hydraulic torque equipment. Verify proper flange connections, bolts, nuts, ring gaskets, and related components. Inspect equipment and connections before, during, and after testing. Monitor pressure throughout testing and identify leaks, pressure loss, or other abnormalities. Maintain a safe testing area and establish appropriate exclusion/buffer zones. Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and applicable oilfield safety requirements. Complete required testing documentation, reports, and job tickets accurately. Communicate professionally with company representatives, rig crews, supervisors, and customers. Perform routine inspection and maintenance of testing, torqueing, generators, hoses, and other equipment. Load, secure, transport, and maintain company equipment. Maintain clean and organized trucks, tools, and work areas. Assist with additional inspection and oilfield services as company capabilities expand. Stop work and report unsafe conditions when necessary. Typical Equipment & Services Technicians may work with: Blowout preventers (BOPs) Annular preventers Flanges and well-control connections Hydraulic torque units Pressure-test pumps and equipment Ring gaskets Studs, nuts, and bolts Test plugs, blinds, and related testing equipment Generators and auxiliary equipment Job Requirements Previous oilfield, mechanical, pressure-testing, or torqueing experience preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and understand pressure ratings, flange sizes, and torque requirements. Ability to operate hydraulic torque equipment safely. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work around heavy equipment and active drilling/workover operations. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to pass required drug and alcohol testing. Ability to work extended hours and varying schedules as required by field operations. Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy equipment safely. Technicians are expected to:
Follow all established safety procedures and JSA requirements. Understand and respect pressure-test exclusion zones. Never enter a designated testing area while equipment is under pressure. Verify equipment, connections, and test pressures before beginning a test. Use required PPE at all times. Report hazards, equipment deficiencies, incidents, and near misses immediately. Maintain a professional safety mindset regardless of production pressure. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is reliable, mechanically inclined, safety-minded, and willing to work hard. Work may involve long days, changing weather conditions, remote locations, travel, and working around active workover-rig operations.
