PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Plumber Journeyman is responsible for coordinating the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems on commercial, industrial, residential, or government construction projects. This role ensures field crews, plans daily work activities, and all plumbing work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, plumbing codes, and company standards. The Plumber Journeyman demonstrates trustworthiness by consistently following company processes, enforcing safety and code requirements, and communicating honestly and transparently with project leadership. A positive work ethic is shown through strong jobsite leadership, proactive planning, and a commitment to quality, productivity, and accountability.
RESPONSIBILITES
Installation & Repair Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including water, waste, vent, storm, and gas piping. Install fixtures such as toilets, sinks, faucets, water heaters, pumps, and specialty plumbing equipment. Cut, thread, groove, solder, braze, or solvent‑weld pipe and fittings as required. Test plumbing systems for leaks, pressure, and proper operation. Blueprint Reading & Layout Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, plumbing schematics, and details. Perform layout for piping runs, fixture locations, and penetrations. Verify measurements, elevations, and slopes for proper drainage and flow. Identify conflicts and report discrepancies to supervision. Codes & Compliance Ensure work complies with local, state, and national plumbing codes. Follow job‑specific requirements and inspection procedures. Assist with inspections and correct deficiencies as needed. Tools & Equipment Safely operate hand tools, power tools, threading machines, and specialty plumbing equipment. Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition. Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe. Safety & Teamwork Follow all company and jobsite safety policies and procedures. Use proper PPE and follow confined space, hot‑work, and lockout/tagout requirements when applicable. Work cooperatively with foremen, other plumbers, and construction trades. Communicate progress, material needs, and jobsite issues clearly.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Valid Journeyman Plumber license or certification. 4+ years of plumbing experience in commercial, industrial, or residential settings. Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, and installation methods. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Knowledge of plumbing codes and jobsite safety requirements. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Preferred Experience on commercial, industrial, or government projects. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience with medical gas, process piping, or large‑scale plumbing systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Jobsite environment—indoors, outdoors, and potentially in confined spaces or elevated areas. Requires standing, climbing, lifting 50+ lbs, and working with tools. Exposure to noise, heat, sparks, and heavy materials. Work may involve travel between job sites.
