ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

In the first 30 days and ongoing: Perform the full range of skilled plumbing work including installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, repair, and remodel of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, waste, gas, and related plumbing systems. Assemble, install, and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures composed of a variety of metals and materials, including cutting, threading, and welding of pipes as required. Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and related components per project specifications and blueprints. Maintain, troubleshoot, and test plumbing systems including backflow prevention devices, identifying issues and implementing solutions. Inspect completed plumbing work for conformance with specifications, building codes, and safety regulations. Maintain swimming pools and water features including routine maintenance, system checks, and repairs as needed. Work safely in accordance with established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Maintain accurate records of work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Coordinate and consult with other trade workers to ensure proper integration of plumbing systems with mechanical, electrical, and structural components. Within the 3rd month mark and ongoing: Demonstrate proficiency troubleshooting complex plumbing issues and implementing effective solutions with minimal supervision. Show competency performing welding work on pipes and metal components as required by project specifications. Efficiently read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and technical specifications. Accurately estimate materials, labor costs, and time requirements for standard plumbing maintenance and repair work. Provide guidance and instruction to apprentices, helpers, and semi-skilled assistants on plumbing techniques and safety protocols. Maintain all required certifications including backflow prevention licenses and any water treatment certifications. Inspect related work performed by other contractors for quality and code compliance. Respond appropriately to emergency plumbing situations with professionalism and technical competence. Prepare standard reports and documentation accurately and timely. Within the 6th month mark and ongoing: Work independently on plumbing projects demonstrating full command of journey-level plumbing skills and knowledge. Consistently deliver work that meets specifications, passes inspections on the first attempt, and achieves zero safety incidents or code violations. Provide valuable guidance to Project Managers and other team members on plumbing system requirements and potential challenges before they become issues. Mentor apprentices and helpers on advanced techniques, troubleshooting methods, and best practices specific to pool and water feature plumbing. Proactively identify opportunities to improve plumbing processes, installation methods, and efficiency. Successfully manage water treatment duties including monitoring, testing, and chemically treating swimming pools and water supplies to maintain acceptable chlorination and water quality levels. 9th-12th month mark and ongoing: Demonstrate leadership and mentorship of junior plumbers and apprentices, helping them develop journey-level skills and knowledge. Contribute ideas for improving plumbing processes, system design, and maintenance procedures based on field experience. Provide valuable technical input during project planning and pre-construction meetings regarding plumbing requirements and feasibility. Be recognized as a trusted, go-to resource for complex plumbing challenges and troubleshooting across multiple projects.

Compensation:

$32 - $40 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) Note on

This position may involve work on prevailing wage jobsites. Compensation on prevailing wage projects will be in accordance with the applicable prevailing wage determination set by the California Department of Industrial Relations, which may exceed the stated hourly range.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Valid California Journeyman Plumber License required Minimum 5+ years of continuous experience in the plumbing field required Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program or equivalent journey-level experience and training required High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required Demonstrated expertise in pool and water feature plumbing systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting required Proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, drawings, and technical specifications required Knowledge of California State Plumbing Codes and applicable federal and state health and safety regulations required Ability to perform skilled welding work on pipes and metal components required Proficiency assembling, installing, and repairing pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures composed of various materials required Backflow prevention certification required Ability to obtain and maintain water treatment certification preferred Valid and current California driver's license required Proficiency with computerized record-keeping systems and basic computer skills preferred Ability to make rough sketches of plumbing installations preferred Experience providing instruction and mentoring to apprentices and helpers preferred Estimating, scheduling, and inventory control experience preferred
