Plumber/Steamfitter
REPORTS TO
Senior Plumber/Steamfitter/Coord. of Building & Grounds
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
This position is accountable for the installation and repair of heating systems, water supply, drainage, and disposal systems.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
This position is accountable for the following: 1. Perform journey-level maintenance work in the repair, inspection, service, installation and alteration of gas, water and sewer plumbing fixtures and systems; work from blueprints and sketches; prepare job estimates as assigned; coordinate plumbing activities with local service agencies all at the highest quality level following all federal, state and local regulations and codes. 2. Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning sewers and flushing lines; make recommendations for modification of new installations. 3. Responsibility for the installation, maintenance, and repairs of water pipes, heating systems, drainage, and disposal systems. 4. Inspect, maintain, and repair existing plumbing, steam, and sprinkler systems to ensure they are in good working order. 5. Must be familiar with pump operation, repair and maintenance, i.e. sewage ejectors, centrifugal, sump pumps, condensate pumps, etc. 6. Maintain records of work performed including labor and materials used; receive work orders and determine priorities, using the district's computerized maintenance management software (CMMS). 7. Complete and close out CMMS work orders appropriately. 8. Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches and blueprints as well as assist other employees with the review of construction documents for both new and renovation projects. 9. Assist outside contractors as needed and assist with design and review of in-house projects. 10. Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. 11. Monitors activities in and around work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety. 12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate 2. Must possess a Valid Massachusetts State driver's license. 3. Must have a current Massachusetts Plumbing License (Masters preferred) with a thorough knowledge of the Code of Mass. Regulations (C.M.R.). 4. Must pass a
CORI/SORI
Background check. 5. Required to always wear/use appropriate safety clothing/equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. 2. Required to work at heights or in narrow spaces to service equipment. 3. Required to stand for prolonged periods. 4. Exposed to high noise levels and hazardous chemicals. 5. Periodically required to lift and carry heavy supplies or equipment. 6. Occasionally required to wear protective clothing. 7. Occasionally required to work outdoors in inclement weather. 8. Must be available to respond to emergency calls after hours. 9. Requires travel between work sites within the city. 10. Works in all weather conditions, at heights, and in enclosed spaces with limited access. 11. Follow local & state building codes and safety regulations and take precautions when working with heavy materials and at heights. 12. Availability to work overtime, including weekends, as necessary. 13. Must have basic computer knowledge for time entry, preventative maintenance and work orders. 14. Good verbal and written communication.
