Job Description

Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with hands-on plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance experience for our year-round wilderness resort in northern Minnesota. This is not an entry-level maintenance position. We're looking for someone with at least 3 years of professional maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical, or skilled-trades experience who is comfortable independently troubleshooting problems and completing repairs. The ideal candidate is the kind of person who can look at a maintenance problem, figure out what's wrong, determine how to fix it, and get the job done. You should have practical experience with basic plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical systems, carpentry, equipment, and general building maintenance . You don't need to be an expert in every trade. You do need broad hands-on experience, good mechanical aptitude, and the judgment to know what you can safely repair yourself and when a licensed or specialized contractor is needed. Previous experience leading a crew, supervising employees, managing projects, or coordinating contractors is strongly preferred. What You'll Work On Gunflint Lodge is a 100+ acre property with more than 50 structures, including guest cabins, lodge and restaurant facilities, employee housing, utility systems, shops, docks, vehicles, boats, and equipment. That means this is not a job where you'll be doing the same repair every day.
Your responsibilities will include:
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and complete general building maintenance and repairs Troubleshoot and perform appropriate basic plumbing repairs, including fixtures, toilets, sinks, water heaters, piping, and related systems Troubleshoot and perform appropriate basic electrical repairs, including lighting, switches, outlets, controls, and other building electrical components Diagnose and address mechanical and equipment maintenance issues Perform routine and preventative maintenance in cabins, public buildings, employee housing, and other facilities Complete general carpentry, painting, wall, roof, and exterior repairs Monitor and assist with resort water and utility systems Maintain and repair small engines, boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, vehicles, and other equipment within your experience and capabilities Operate tractors, skid steers, snowplows, and other equipment Respond to maintenance emergencies including water leaks, power outages, equipment failures, and other urgent repair needs Inspect facilities and identify maintenance and safety issues before they become larger problems Help plan and prioritize preventative maintenance and repair projects Coordinate with outside contractors when specialized or licensed work is required Help organize projects and provide direction to other maintenance employees when needed Respond professionally and efficiently to guest maintenance requests Maintain tools, equipment, shops, and work areas in safe and organized condition Assist with snow removal, docks, grounds, and other seasonal maintenance needs Required Qualifications 3+ years of professional maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical, or skilled-trades experience Demonstrated hands-on experience diagnosing problems and completing repairs Practical working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building maintenance Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Proficiency with hand and power tools Ability to work independently and take a repair from diagnosis through completion Valid driver's license and good driving record Ability to perform physical maintenance work indoors and outdoors throughout northern Minnesota's four seasons Preferred Experience We're especially interested in candidates who bring experience in one or more of these areas: Leading a maintenance crew or supervising employees Managing maintenance, construction, or repair projects Coordinating contractors and vendors Carpentry and building repair Small-engine, automotive, boat, ATV, or snowmobile repair Skid steer, tractor, snowplow, or other equipment operation Commercial water systems Septic systems Refrigeration or HVAC Pool maintenance Why Choose Gunflint Lodge?
