Job Description

American Rooter is hiring an experienced Excavator Operator / Plumbing & Drain Technician for our Central Pennsylvania team. This is a combined position involving excavation, underground water and sewer repairs, plumbing service, and drain cleaning. We're looking for someone who can safely operate excavation equipment and contribute to service work as the schedule requires. This is not an equipment-operation-only position.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Operate excavators safely for underground water and sewer line repairs and replacements. Work around marked utilities, buildings, driveways, sidewalks, and other existing structures. Assist with locating, exposing, repairing, and replacing underground piping. Perform hand digging, pipe installation, backfilling, grading, and job-site cleanup. Diagnose and repair plumbing problems within your qualifications and experience. Clear drain and sewer blockages using cable machines and hydro-jetting equipment. Perform sewer camera inspections and help determine appropriate repair options. Coordinate with the office, field managers, and other crew members. Explain findings and proposed work to customers. Complete accurate job notes, photos, estimates, and time entries in ServiceTitan. Inspect equipment before use and report maintenance or safety concerns.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Previous excavator operating experience on underground utility or similar construction projects. Ability to operate safely and independently around existing utilities. Hands-on plumbing, underground piping, and/or drain-cleaning experience. Understanding of excavation hazards, utility markings, and safe digging practices. Willingness to work both in the equipment and on the ground with the crew. A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company insurance requirements. Dependability, sound judgment, and clear communication. Comfort using an iPad or mobile app for job documentation and timekeeping. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position in outdoor conditions and physically demanding work environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
PAY AND BENEFITS
Hourly pay based on operating experience, plumbing knowledge, and demonstrated ability. Opportunity to earn a 15% commission on profit from qualifying customer-paid sales, subject to company program terms. Company vehicle for work use as assigned and company shirts. Company pays 75% of medical, dental, and vision premiums after 90 days. Paid holidays beginning on day one. 40 hours of PTO after 90 days, increasing to 80 hours after one year. 401(k) with a 4% company match after six months, subject to plan eligibility and terms.
LOCATION
Serving Dillsburg and the surrounding Central Pennsylvania area, including Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, and nearby communities. This is an in-person field position requiring travel between job sites.
Pay:
$26.00 - $34.00 per hour
